At Oystercatchers Cottage, we pride ourselves on offering our guests the best of both worlds – a peaceful seaside retreat that’s still conveniently close to all that Skye has to offer. Our 1902 croft house has been lovingly restored to provide a tranquil haven where you can truly unwind, while still being within easy reach of local amenities and attractions.

Nestled in a quiet spot off the A87, our cottage offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Here, you’ll find yourself in a little oasis of calm, where the only sounds to disturb your peace are the gentle calls of geese, curlews, and oystercatchers. The low light pollution in our area not only ensures peaceful nights but also makes for spectacular stargazing opportunities on clear evenings.

Despite this sense of seclusion, you’re far from isolated. We’re perfectly positioned just 10 minutes from the Skye Bridge, making your arrival on the island quick and hassle-free. If you prefer to come ‘over the sea’, the Mallaig-Armadale ferry is only 20 minutes away, offering a scenic start to your Skye adventure.

When you’re ready to explore or stock up on supplies, the town of Broadford is a mere 10-minute drive away. Here you’ll find a range of shops, cafes, and restaurants to cater to all your needs. It’s the perfect distance – close enough for convenience, but far enough to maintain the peaceful atmosphere at the cottage.

For those days when you don’t feel like driving, you’ll find a lovely restaurant within walking distance of Oystercatchers. And if you want to venture further afield without taking the car, the bus stop for the main link to Portree and the Mainland is also just a short walk away.

Our location is ideal for exploring all that Skye has to offer. Whether you’re here for mountain walking in the Cuillins, enjoying lower level walks, or seeking out adventurous activities, you’ll find yourself well-placed to access it all. At the same time, the cottage’s seaside position means you can enjoy easy walks in the immediate area, perfect for those days when you want to stay closer to home.

We’ve worked hard to strike the perfect balance at Oystercatchers. Here, you can enjoy complete peace and quiet, disturbed only by the sounds of nature. Yet, you’re never more than a short journey from the amenities and attractions that make Skye such a wonderful holiday destination. It’s this combination of tranquility and accessibility that our guests often tell us makes their stay so special.

So come and experience it for yourself. Unwind in our peaceful seaside setting, knowing that the best of Skye is right on your doorstep whenever you’re ready to explore. At Oystercatchers, you really can have it all.

Oystercatchers Cottage is a nature lover’s paradise, nestled in one of the most captivating corners of the Isle of Skye. Our seaside location offers a front-row seat to the island’s diverse wildlife and stunning natural beauty, making it the perfect retreat for those who cherish the great outdoors.

As you settle into the cottage, you’ll quickly discover why this area is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The peninsula opposite us, Ardnish, forms the eastern edge of Broadford Bay and is renowned as one of the best birding spots on Skye. From the comfort of your holiday home, you can observe a rich variety of birdlife. Keep an eye out for migrants making brief stopovers and, if you’re lucky, you might even spot a rare vagrant species.

We’ve set up the garden with bird feeders to attract our feathered friends closer to the cottage. Grab the binoculars we provide, settle into a comfortable spot, and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Skye’s birdlife. You might even be treated to the sight of majestic sea eagles soaring overhead, and you will certainly hear the distinctive calls of geese and curlews.

For many of our guests, the highlight of their stay is catching a glimpse of the playful otters that frequent the area. These charming creatures can sometimes be seen at the bottom of our garden, further downstream, or on the opposite shore. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of spotting an otter in its natural habitat, and at Oystercatchers, you have a prime vantage point.

As night falls, a different kind of natural spectacle unfolds. Thanks to our location away from major light pollution, the cottage is an excellent spot for stargazing. On clear nights, the sky comes alive with a dazzling array of stars, offering a humbling reminder of our place in the universe.

For those who prefer their wildlife encounters on the water, Oystercatchers is the perfect base. Bring your own kayaks, canoes, or stand-up paddleboards and launch them right from our grounds. At high tide, the sea can come right up to the edge of our garden, allowing easy access for your aquatic adventures.

We’ve equipped the cottage with maps and guidebooks to help you explore the natural wonders of Skye. Whether you’re planning a gentle stroll to spot local flora and fauna or a more challenging hike in the nearby Cuillin mountains, you’ll find all the information you need to make the most of your nature-filled holiday.

At Oystercatchers, we believe that the natural world is one of Skye’s greatest treasures. We invite you to come and experience it for yourself, waking to the call of seabirds and falling asleep to the gentle lapping of waves. Here, nature isn’t just a backdrop – it’s an integral part of your holiday experience.

Oystercatchers - sea lapping the grounds

Oystercatchers Cottage is a seaside haven on the breathtaking Isle of Skye. As owners, we’re thrilled to share this special place with you, where the beauty of Scotland’s landscapes unfolds right before your eyes.

Our guests wake up to the gentle sound of waves lapping at the shore, and draw back the curtains to reveal a panorama that takes your breath away. Our cottage boasts uninterrupted views across Broadford Bay, with the majestic Red Cuillins rising in the distance and the Isle of Scalpay nestled on the horizon. To the east, the rugged coastline of the mainland near Applecross completes this awe-inspiring vista.

Built in 1902 as a traditional croft house, Oystercatchers has been lovingly restored to offer modern comforts while retaining its authentic charm. The gardens sweep down to the sea’s edge, providing a front-row seat to nature’s ever-changing spectacle. Whether you’re sipping your morning coffee on the patio or enjoying a glass of wine as the sun sets, you’ll be captivated by the play of light on water and the dramatic silhouettes of the surrounding hills.

Our location on Skye—an island celebrated as the ‘4th best in the world’ by National Geographic—offers the perfect base for exploring this magical corner of Scotland. You’re just a stone’s throw from some of the island’s most iconic landscapes, yet tucked away in a peaceful coastal nook.

The cottage’s position, slightly elevated from the shoreline, ensures that every room benefits from the magnificent outlook. Large windows frame the views like living paintings, bringing the outside in and connecting you to the rhythms of island life. Watch as fishing boats bob in the bay, seabirds soar overhead, and perhaps even spot the sleek form of an otter playing in the shallows.

We’ve found that many of our guests come for the views but stay for the sense of tranquillity and connection to nature that Oystercatchers provides. Whether you’re an artist seeking inspiration, a nature lover hoping to immerse yourself in Skye’s wild beauty, or simply someone in need of a peaceful retreat, our cottage offers a front-row seat to some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery. We invite you to come and experience the magic of Skye from this very special vantage point.
